Nintendo Direct Summary – November 13, 2013

The latest Nintendo Direct focused mainly on the Nintendo 3DS/2DS, and featured several new updates about upcoming games. Nintendo also released a few details on what’s coming up for the Wii U.

3DS/2DS News:

 

  • YouTube app will be launching this month for Nintendo 3DS.
  • New trailer for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds that details some new characters.

 

 

  • A Link Between Worlds will have the token “Milk Bar” present in other Zelda games.
  • A Link Between Worlds 3DS Bundle launches Nov. 22 at $219.99. This bundle will include a download code for the game, as well as a themed 3DS.
  • Nintendo confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be available for download from eShop at the same price as the retail copy.
  • Nintendo Zone locations now give players StreetPass Mii Plaza data from the last six players to visit that location.
  • Mario Party: Island Tour has seven new game boards and 80 new mini-games, including some that utilize the motion controls of Nintendo 3DS. Just like the previous portable iteration, Mario Party DS, the game will feature multiplayer play with up to 4 friends with only one game card.
  • Mario Party: Island Tour will feature StreetPass funtionality in the form of StreetPass mini-game competitions.
  • Mario Party: Island Tour is coming Nov. 22 to both retail and eShop.
  • New Animal Crossing: New Leaf items are coming through spotpass.
    • Animal Crossing: New Leaf raccoon wall clock is available until Nov. 14.
    • Animal Crossing: New Leaf cat tower available Nov. 15-28.
    • Animal Crossing: New Leaf rolling suitcase available Nov. 29-Dec. 12.
    • Super Mario 3D Land Mystery Box starting Nov. 22.
  • The new Kirby game for Nintendo 3DS is officially titled Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
  • A Collector’s Edition of Bravely Default will be available exclusively at select retailers on Feb. 7.
  • Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy launches in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on Feb. 28.

Wii U News

  • Rosalina, originally from Super Mario Galaxy, is a playable character in Super Mario 3D World.
  • Nintendo creating a third set of missions for Pikmin 3. The downloadable stages will be available in the Nintendo eShop for $4.99. However, a software update is required to play the new stages.
  • A new update for the Animal Crossing app is coming that lets players customize their Miiverse posts using 50 different Animal Crossing stamps.
  • Nintendo is also adding a ranking feature to display the results of the monthly Animal Crossing polls. For instance, November’s question is “Who would make the best secretary?”
  • Additional features, including the ability to register and interact with your own Animal Crossing: New Leaf town residents, are also being added.
  • After users update their Wii U YouTube app, they will be able to use the YouTube application to watch videos on the GamePad controller. They will also be able to search while another video is playing on the TV.
  • A free trial of Wii Fit U is available in the Nintendo eShop now through Jan. 31.
